2008 Monterey Pinot Noir
Notes
The color of this 2008 Pinot Noir is brick red with ruby edges. The aromatics are built around a core of roasted mushroom and rich raspberry notes with fresh violets and ripe plum. The flavors start with notes of red currants and cherries jubilee then develop into toasted pinenut, dark cherry, mocha, and wild strawberry. Then the flavor lingers showing sweetened cranberry, toasted brioche, cedar, and fresh tobacco.
The fruit comes mostly from one vineyard in the rolling hills of Monterey just north of Gonzales, CA. This Pinot Noir was picked mid-October and processed at a nearby winery. We keep the fermentation rate slow and low in order to extract all the rich fruit and tannins from the delicate skins. The result is a rich, varietally correct Pinot Noir with a lot of character and complexity. We love this blend because it shows the depth of Monterey Pinot Noir with just a dab of Syrah added for color and berry richness.
Pairings
Our Moobuzz Pinot Noir screams for seared duck breast with porcini risotto and a sweet cherry reduction, butternut squash raviolis with a sage brown butter sauce, or chicken apple sausage and carmelized onion pizza with smoked gouda and mozzarella cheese alongside an arugula salad with a red wine vinaigrette.
